I've always loved to write and it has been a dream of mine to one day either have my own column or write a book. I figure this would be a good start by combining my love of writing with another love of mine, movies.
I just got home from seeing the movie Extract just a few minutes ago and I must say that I am really impressed and pleased.
The movie itself is about a guy named Joel [Jason Bateman] who owns his own extract company called Reynold's Extract. We find Joel sort of stuck at where he is right now in life. He is extremely busy trying to focus on his company and as a result his marriage is having some issues. As the movie progresses we see the kind of mundane routine that Joel sort of goes through each day, as this develops we are introduced to a woman named Cindy [Mila Kunis] who isn't exactly the most honest of all people. The movie goes on a series of events that ultimately ends up having these two people meet, which, of course, only ends up flipping Joel's world upside down.
Overall, we see the story develop as a guy who thought he had nothing and it turned out that in the end he really had everything he needed already. It's a bit of a cliched storyline, but the events don't play out in the linear way that most storylines go and that's where Mike Judge's work always shines. Obviously this movie isn't for everyone, but if you are a fan of light hearted and fun comedies, or simply a fan of Mike Judge's work then I urge you to go do yourself a favor and see this movie.
Overall score: 7/10
